What are some good brands of Paintball guns?
I am looking for some good paintball guns. Not too cheap and not too expensive. I've heard good and bad ratings on spyder so I don't Know what to get.
Spyders are good guns. Any bad things you hear are due to user-error - typically, newer players are the ones that get spyders, and it's newer players that don't yet know how to maintain a paintball gun. Nothing wrong with that, except for those that don't bother to LEARN how to maintain the guns, then these same players start bashing products. Pretty sad.
Anyway, spyders & tippmanns are both good brands. Partly depends on your budget and partly on your preferred style. Woodsball, i'd recommend Tippmann. Speedball, i'd recommend Spyder.
However, other companies have started moving into these beginner gun price ranges, offering better (imo) options than spyders & tippmanns. Smart Parts has the Vibe & Proto has the SLG, although the SLG requires hpa/compressed air (not too big of a deal, as hpa tanks keep getting cheaper & cheaper, you just need to have access to refills).

Is the Tippman 98 custom paintball marker a "woods ball" gun?
my son has been wanting a paintball gun for a while and i finally decided to get him one for his birthday. i flat out asked him if he would like the tippman 98 custom, because it was cheap, could be bought at walmart, and had impeccible reliability ratings. he tells me that this is a "woods ball" gun and not a "speed ball" gun.
is the tippman 98 a "woods ball" gun? would it be OK to be used as a "speed ball" gun?
something tells me that my son is wrong, but this is not my area of expertise, so i am asking you : )
the Tippman is a fine weapon for any new person to paintballing
as it isn't expensive
no its not a speedball weapon
but then speed isn't the best way to win
it doesn't matter how many balls you put down range if you can't hit the broad side of the barn
accuracy will win out every day and save you a ton on ammo to boot
besides the best action is a tactical game where speedballing is next to useless when you have an objective to take
buy the tippman and set him up a few targets to practice on at various ranges
later pad up and give him a moving target to shoot at
work with him till he's a good shot and also to see if he's really into paintballing
no reason to buy a high end weapon only to find out he's really not into this
